Improve your health and well being through physical activity and sport
Today is World Mental Health Day and so what better time to remind everyone of the importance of physical activity and sport to improve your health and general well-being.
Physical health and mental health are closely linked
We are all aware that being physically active is good for our bodies. But our physical health and mental health are closely linked – so physical activity can be very beneficial for our mental health and well-being too.
Mind, the wonderful Mental Health Charity, have produced an excellent guide on ‘How to improve your well-being through physical activity and sport’ – click on the image to download a PDF of it.
Why does being active matter?
Mind puts it best when it says:
“Lots of us don’t get enough exercise to stay healthy, but physical activity is particularly important if you have a mental health problem. This is because people with mental health problems are more likely to:
- have a poor diet
- smoke or drink too much alcohol
- be overweight or obese (this can be a side effect of taking education)
So if you have a mental health problem, the health benefits of becoming more physically active are even more significant.”
